2021 Faces of Milwaukee – Zuern Building Products

Featuring Doug Carlson and Tom Zuern

THE LUMBER INDUSTRY

Zuern Building Products and Design Center traces its history back to 1953, when Louis and Irene Zuern bought a small lumberyard in Allenton, Wisconsin and started up shop with only five employees. In the six decades since, Zuern has expanded to well over 200 team members operating four full-line lumberyards, two design centers and a corporate & distribution center, making it one of the largest independent lumber and building material suppliers in Wisconsin. And it’s remained family-owned and -operated the whole time, with the third generation of Zuern’s actively leading the company.

Zuern supplies a full line of building materials to professional builders, remodelers and homeowners. The lumber market isn’t the only thing that has changed this year at Zuern. Tom Zuern has recently taken the role of President, and the company welcomed Doug Carlson as the new Executive Vice President. Most recently, Zuern was recognized on a national level as Dealer of the Year by Lumber and Building Materials Journal. With 68 years of service behind the company, Zuern continues to expand and build on a legacy of excellence.
